We must ensure that the regional governance will adhere to the system permitted in the 1945 Constitution
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency reaffirmed that the regional governance planned for the new national capital in East Kalimantan will abide by the Constitution.

"As we will designate the new national capital as a special administrative region, we must ensure that the regional governance will adhere to the system permitted in the 1945 Constitution. Despite this, we need to adapt to the necessities for swift national capital governance," the ministry's special staff for institutional relations, Diani Sadia Wati, noted on Wednesday.

The new capital is expected to exhibit good governance that will promote a harmonious symbiosis between the environment and humans that live in the capital city, especially as it will be conferred a degree of autonomy, she noted.

Apart from the capital governance, Wati called to address the matter of national defense on account of the fact that the capital will be transferred to another major island.

Meanwhile, the ministry's Director for Defense and Security Bogat Widyatmoko confirmed that the ministry had conceived a new defense and security system for the new national capital.

The new approach will enable the new capital to become the new national defense hub and driver on account of its more centralized location in Indonesia, the special staff noted.

"National defense and security is an absolute prerequisite for national development and progress, as a country, with a high probability of conflict, is often struggling to bring prosperity for their residents," the director stated.

The defense and security system, being included in the new national capital masterplan, is expected to secure the new capital from air, sea, land, and cyber threats, he affirmed.

The defense system for the new capital had also cleared the national Strategic Environmental Assessment, thereby proving that the system will not disrupt the surrounding environment, he remarked.

"As the smart city concept will be employed for the new capital, the capital masterplan is conceived with advanced technology and local wisdom to augment our smart defense and security system, Widyatmoko stated.
