Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor Anies Baswedan, at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout here Saturday, urged the public to take the experience in 2021 as an important lesson in facing 2022.

"Looking back at the year 2021, with all of its good and bad, would be beneficial if we take a lesson from everything that we had experienced," he noted.

According to Baswedan, the provincial government went through several experiences during the course of 2021 amid the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We collectively realized in 2021 that we were hit by the devastating COVID-19 wave," the Jakarta governor remarked.

"Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), with the permission from Allah, Glory to Him, the Exalted, we managed to survive and have the opportunity to turn things around," he affirmed.

The success in handling the COVID-19 pandemic is inseparable from the role and participation of several parties, including the people, he remarked.

To this end, Baswedan expressed gratitude to the people for having worked side-by-side during this pandemic.

The governor expects Jakarta to remain safe and conducive in 2022 amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, he expressed keenness to make 2022 the year for a stronger and better recovery.

In addition, he thanked all citizens that had adhered to the government's suggestion to not celebrate the New Year 2022 outside their home.

According to Baswedan, the condition of the capital city on the night of Dec 31 was stable, with no disturbance.

However, the governor continued to urge the people to not let their guard down in facing the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022.
