Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of COVID-19 inpatients at Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital, Jakarta, rose by 74 to reach 729 on Saturday, an official informed.

In a press statement issued here on Saturday, head of information for Joint Regional Defense Command I, Marine Colonel Aris Mudian, said the number of COVID-19 inpatients at Towers 5 and 6 stood at 729, comprising 348 men and 381 women, compared to 655 the previous day.

"There was an addition of 74 inpatients," he added.

From March 23, 2020, till 8 a.m. local time on January 1, 2022, the total number of patients referred to the Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital reached 130,661, he informed.

Of the total number, 128,279 patients recovered, 1,057 patients were referred to other hospitals, and 596 patients succumbed to COVID-19, he said.

He also provided an update on the situation at Galang Island's Special Hospital for Infection (RSKI), Batam, Riau Islands.

As of Saturday, he said the number of inpatients at the hospital stood at 193.

"There are 193 inpatients, including 136 men and 57 women," Mudian said.

The number of inpatients at Galang Island Hospital fell by 39 compared to 232 inpatients the previous day, he noted.

From April 12, 2020, to January 1, 2022, the hospital treated 17,857 patients, he informed.

Of that number, the hospital discharged 17,663 patients, while one patient died of COVID-19, he said.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020.

According to data provided by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of January 1, 2022, at least 4,262,994 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, while 4,114,499 people have recovered, and 144,096 people have succumbed to the virus.
