Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinator of the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Emergency Hospital (RSDC) Major General Budiman affirmed that the policy to impose a lockdown in RSDC was the government's endeavor to prevent transmission of the COVID-19 variant called Omicron.

"This is part of the government's efforts in the wake of the emergence of Omicron cases at Wisma Atlet," Budiman stated at an online press conference, Sunday.

The major general later remarked that the lockdown was imposed at the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Hospital, while activities at other RSDCs, such as Pademangan, Pasar Rumput, and Nagrak, ran normally.

Lockdown or isolation activities at the RSDC Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Jakarta were implemented by not allowing people to enter and leave the vicinity. Personnel inside the area were banned from going out, while those from outside entering Wisma Atlet Kemayoran were required to follow security procedures, such as wearing hazardous material suits.

Meanwhile, patients or doctors looking to leave the buildings must be disinfected and take a shower before leaving the area.

The lockdown period at the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Hospital is in force from December 17 to December 23.

The government implemented lockdown in Wisma Atlet Kemayoran RSDC since one janitor in the hospital tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Until Sunday, a total of three COVID-19 patients that contracted the Omicron variant were treated at the Wisma Atlet RSDC, including Mr. N, who worked as a janitor at the Wisma Atlet RSDC and was confirmed to be infected on December 15.

The two others, identified with the initials as I and M, recently returned from the United States and the United Kingdom and were confirmed to have been infected on December 17, 2021.

After detection of the three cases, the government immediately tracked down people, who came in close contact with the three Omicron patients. Some 10 people tested positive for COVID-19 but were still awaiting result of a laboratory test for the type of virus variant.
