BIN has also organized mass vaccinations for the general public in Kebumen district, Siswanto said in Temanggung.
The agency is targeting to inoculate 2,650 people under the vaccination programs for children and the general public, he added.
Sinovac vaccines are being administered to children as they have been cleared by the National Agency of Drug and Food Control, while vaccinations are being provided door-to-door to the general public using the vaccine provided by the Health Office, he said.
The children's vaccinations are taking place at Tlogopucang village hall, Kandangan Sub-district, Temanggung District, while door-to-door vaccinations are being conducted in Kemangguan Village, Alian Sub-district, Kebumen District, Siswanto disclosed.
He said he believed it is necessary to vaccinate children aged 6–11 years considering that they are prone to contracting COVID-19.
Parents understand the importance of getting their children vaccinated, especially to protect them from getting infected and to support face-to-face learning, he added.
"Therefore, the success of this children's vaccination program requires the support of all parties, including the students' parents," he said.
He said that door-to-door vaccinations for the public are one of the flagship programs of BIN's Head General Budi Gunawan, as they have been proven to boost the rate of public participation in vaccination efforts.
To encourage vaccinations, the Central Java's BIN has established a vaccination center and has cooperated with health workers visiting people who cannot visit the center, he informed.
He said vaccinations are an effort to form herd immunity and thus, are a means of protection for the community, especially in anticipation of the Omicron variant.
