The creative economy had created jobs with innovative and creative ideas. Now, how can we best portray the characteristics and uniqueness of each region.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno pressed for greater creativity among youth in exploring the uniqueness in their regions in order to compete globally.

Indonesia currently ranks third in the world, following the United States and South Korea, in the creative economy sector, with its revenue reaching Rp1,200 trillion, he stated.

The figure has highly contributed to the national economy, with three main sub-sectors comprising culinary, at 41.5 percent; fashion, 17.7 percent; and handicrafts, 15 percent, he remarked.

“The creative economy had created jobs with innovative and creative ideas. Now, how can we best portray the characteristics and uniqueness of each region,” Uno stated during “The 2022 Lokalate Ngopinspirasi Summit” webinar here on Friday.

Indonesia's regions have vast areas of potential in the fashion, crafts, culinary, application, or other sub-sectors that can be developed, the minister highlighted.

“I am very annoyed that this rich country has coffee called Java, but cappuccino is more popular in the world. Why we cannot make our own coffee that we develop,” he emphasized.

“The top-notch potentials are not only in food and beverage, culinary arts, and fashion, but also in crafts, applications, and games. Everyone is playing games nowadays,” he stated.

UNESCO had named Ambon as a city of music, offering vast opportunities to be continually developed, according to the minister.

Uno expressed optimism that other cities, especially in eastern Indonesia, would showcase their high potential.

“Eastern Indonesia has high potential for filmmaking. Several good films were made in Labuan Bajo. Come on, friends, we develop films. Let us not lose to the Squid Game,” he stated.

“We should make extraordinary films in the near future by highlighting the thoughts of children in eastern Indonesia that, in my opinion, hold high potential,” he remarked.
