We are striving to make the three SPKLUs to be operated in 2022.
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity provider PT PLN (Persero) is constructing an electric vehicle charging station (SPKLU) in Jayapura City, Papua Province, to encourage the use of electric motor vehicles in Indonesia.

General Manager of PLN’s Regional Main Unit for Papua and West Papua Abdul Farid echoed his side's readiness to develop infrastructure and facilities for electric vehicles.

“Currently, the electric vehicle charging machines are being sent from Jakarta to be installed at the SPKLU. The charging station is estimated to be operated in the second week of February 2022," Farid noted as quoted here on Tuesday.

Farid remarked that the SPKLU is located in the company’s regional main unit on Ahmad Yani Street Number 18, Jayapura City, Papua Province.

Furthermore, he encouraged the public to use electric vehicles in Jayapura City since they are quality vehicles and can navigate through the city’s treacherous landscape.

“PLN will hold a touring with the Papua Electric Vehicle Community at Jayapura City, Wamena Sub-district (Jayawijaya District), and Asmat District, which is the only district with 100-percent electric motor users in Indonesia," Farid remarked.

In addition to Jayapura City, Farid stated that three SPKLUs will be built in Manokwari City, Sorong City, and Biak Biak Island, all of which are in West Papua Province.

"We are striving to make the three SPKLUs operational in 2022," he stated.

Farid highlighted his side's optimism that the attempt would be able to encourage the use of electric vehicles, as the SPKLU is not only more economical and environment-friendly but also easy to use.

He assessed that Papua is ready to welcome the deployment of electric vehicles.

Furthermore, the enterprise has simultaneously inaugurated charging stations in five areas in other eastern regions of Indonesia, comprising Labuan Bajo Village in East Nusa Tenggara Province, Mataram City in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Kendari City in Southeast Sulawesi Province, Manado City in North Sulawesi Province, and Ambon City in Maluku Province.
