Jakarta (ANTARA) - The realization of the third or booster shots in Jakarta has reached 216,726 people out of the targeted 8 million in the age group of 18 and above, the Jakarta Health Office has reported.



On Friday, 28,481 Jakartans received the third dose of the vaccine, head of disease prevention and control at the Jakarta Health Office, Dwi Oktavia, informed.



The data for the third dose vaccinations was collected by the Jakarta Health Office up until Thursday, she said.



The Health Office has continued to expand third dose vaccinations through the dissemination of information via platforms such as social media, she informed.



This dissemination comprises information about the type of booster vaccines, the eligibility criteria for receiving them, as well as the schedule and location of vaccinations, she said.



Vaccinations are being carried out at Public Health Centers (Puskesmas) across Jakarta's sub-districts, hospitals, government as well as military or police clinics, and vaccination centers, she said.

The first and second dose vaccinations have also continued in the capital, she added.



Twelve million people have received the first dose in Jakarta as of Thursday, she informed.



Of this figure, 71 percent hold Jakarta identity cards (KTP) while the rest hold non-Jakarta KTPs, she said.



In addition, the second dose coverage has reached 9.6 million or 95.3 percent of the target, she added.

The Jakarta provincial government has urged people to get the first, second, as well as third dose promptly to build immunity against the coronavirus, including the Omicron variant.



As of January 20, 2022, the number of Omicron cases detected in Jakarta stood at 747 among international travelers and 280 among non-international travelers.



Earlier, the Jakarta provincial government had strengthened vigilance through the COVID-19 task force to tackle the surge in Omicron cases in addition to adopting numerous other mitigation measures.
