Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of Indonesian citizens who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine reached 123.1 million as of Friday, according to the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.



According to data received from the task force, the number of citizens receiving the second dose rose by 789,007 on Friday, taking the total number of fully vaccinated people to 123,167,273, or 123.1 million.



The number of citizens receiving the first dose also increased by 867,910 to reach 180,021,654.



Meanwhile, with an additional 4,247 recipients on Friday, the number of people who have received the booster or third dose has so far reached 1,357,642, the task force reported.



The Indonesian government is targeting to immunize 208,265,720 citizens against COVID-19 to achieve community or herd immunity.

Meanwhile, the country logged 2,604 COVID-19 cases on Friday, of which 2,393 involved local transmission and 211 were detected in people who had traveled abroad.



The Ministry of Health on Friday also confirmed that 87 Umrah pilgrims who departed on January 8, 2022, have tested positive for COVID-19.



"It is true; there are 87 pilgrims who have tested positive for COVID-19. Currently, ten people are suspected of contracting Omicron," spokesperson for COVID-19 vaccinations at the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, confirmed here on Friday.



Tarmizi informed that the ten pilgrims suspected of contracting the Omicron variant are being examined to confirm the presence of the variant.

In a bid to boost community immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021. President Joko Widodo was the first vaccine recipient under the program.



The Indonesian government officially rolled out third dose vaccinations for the public on January 12, 2022, targeting those aged 18 and above who have completed six months since receiving the second dose.
