We do not want another spike in cases and everyone should play a part.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate, in a press statement on Saturday, urged people to remain consistent in adhering to health protocols in response to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

"The number of daily confirmed cases has now risen to reach over two thousand per day. We should be careful," he emphasized.

Data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force as of January 21 showed that the daily count of confirmed cases had reached 2,604, an increase from 2,116 cases on January 20.

This surge is quite significant as compared to that observed during the second week of January. A rise in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases during the period was under one thousand per day.

On January 21, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across Indonesia stood at 4,280,248.

The rise in people's activities also increases the risk for coronavirus infection, especially when stringent health protocols are not implemented.

"To this end, we urge the people once again to act wisely while traveling and avoid crowding. The virus still lurks among us," Plate noted.

He especially warned the people to not become carriers of the virus that could infect loved ones at home.

While traveling and visiting public spaces where people tend to amass, he urged the public to always follow health protocols.

The health protocols comprise wearing a mask correctly, maintaining distance from other people, washing hands with soap or hand sanitizer, and avoid places with poor air circulation.

"These efforts may seem simple, but they are very important to be upheld. We do not want another spike in cases, and everyone should play a part," he affirmed.

The minister also instructed the people to get vaccinated immediately to reduce the risk of coronavirus infections, including the ever-expanding Omicron variant.
