Vaccination (rate) for the elderly is still in the 40s, which means that (we still need to vaccinate) around four thousand in order to push it to reach 60 percent
Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The Ende government, Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province, aims to inoculate 90 percent of its total targeted population against COVID-19 by March 2022.

"Our target for this vaccination program is (to vaccinate people, and it) must be more than 90 percent for doses one and two," Head of the Ende District Health Office Aries Dwi Lestari said in a statement received in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday.

Lestari stated that the 100-percent COVID-19 vaccination target should have been achieved. However, several first-dose vaccine recipients had left Ende, so the vaccination was recorded at the destination later.

In general, the total number of people targeted for COVID-19 vaccination in the region reached around 181,600, she remarked.

Lestari also noted that 74 percent of the people had so far received the first dose of vaccination, while the second dose was still capped at 40 percent. Meanwhile, 40 percent of the targeted elderly population had received their shot.

Lestari admitted to still struggling to push the vaccination rate for the elderly to up to 60 percent, given the accompanying challenges.

"Vaccination (rate) for the elderly is still in the 40s, which means that (we still need to vaccinate) around four thousand in order to push it to reach 60 percent," she affirmed.

Lestari noted that to pursue this target, her administration had also established a vaccination post, such as a vaccination post for the elderly, which was located in front of the Ende Regional General Hospital, operational every Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time.

"Furthermore, we will immediately establish vaccination posts at public service places, such as markets," she stated.

Lestari remarked that the regional government will, at the earliest, also impose a regulation under which residents are necessitated to show a two-dose vaccination certificate in order to receive public services.
