Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Seribu Islands Police have thwarted an attempt to traffic five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and arrested one suspected dealer, identified by his initials as BP.

"This is a success of Seribu Islands Police in foiling illicit trafficking of crystal methamphetamine weighing five kilograms," spokesperson for the Jakarta Police, Senior Commissioner Endra Zulpan, said here on Tuesday.

The drugs were seized based on a tip regarding the trafficking of methamphetamine in Kampung Bahari area, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, he informed.

Acting on the tip, police conducted investigations and raided a house in Kampung Bahari on January 11, 2022, and found five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, he said.

Finding the house empty, officers ascertained the identity of the occupant of the house, who was known to go by the initials BP, Zulpan said.

Later, BP's whereabouts were determined to be Tangerang, Banten, he informed. However, officers failed to find the suspect there as he had moved to another location, he said.

The officers continued the hunt for BP and arrested him from Pandeglang district, Banten, on January 20, 2022, he added. BP did not resist the arrest, he continued.

Investigators have named BP as a suspect in the case and detained him as he has admitted that he planned to sell the drugs in small packages, Zulpan informed.
