"I am seeing that our frequency spectrum governance has to be improved. Which designations are for telecommunications, which ones are for satellites, as well as allocations for other needs," Plate noted here on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the practice of combined frequency spectrums had hindered the optimization of telecommunication services.
To this end, the minister affirmed his commitment to regularly applying the farming and re-farming concept in the existing frequency spectrums in Indonesia, so that the country and society can benefit from it.
"Hence, through farming and re-farming, we have the certainty to meet the needs of the frequency spectrum both for 4G networks, as the backbone of our current telecommunication, and 5G development that is expected to grow on a massive scale in future," he explained.
Plate asserted that the Indonesian government has made a commitment and political promise to provide quality digital infrastructure with the launch of Indonesia 4.0.
In realizing this goal, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, through its Telecommunication Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), has a key role in building physical and just telecommunications infrastructure for all Indonesian communities.
Drawing reference to Government Regulation No. 46 of 2021, the minister expressed optimism that the acceleration of digital transformation in Indonesia would progress well.
In addition to the farming and re-farming concept, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics strives to bring infrastructure in the outermost, remote, and underdeveloped (3T) regions, so that equitable distribution of telecommunication services can be realized on the national scale.
During the 2021-2022 period, at least 7,904 Base Transceiver Stations were built by BAKTI and a mobile service operator for 4G network connectivity in the 3T regions.
