Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria appealed to all parties to be more vigilant as the bed occupancy ratio (BOR) at 140 referral COVID-19 hospitals in Jakarta surged to 54 percent, from 45 percent.

“We should stay alert that the BOR has surged to 54 percent. Please pay attention to the surge, from 45 percent to 54 percent,” Patria stressed in a statement here on Saturday.

As per data received by the deputy governor as of Friday (January 28, 2022), as many as 2,260 beds out of the 4,222 COVID-19 isolation beds were occupied, while some 112 beds out of the 629 beds at the intensive care unit (ICU) were occupied.

“Although beds mostly constitute patients with no symptoms, please do not take it easy,” he highlighted.

Moreover, the number of confirmed Omicron cases also climbed by 121, thereby taking the total to 2,525, he added.

Such an increase was also driven by a significant surge in local transmission, he remarked.

“The gap between imported and local cases was initially huge, but now, we are apparently transmitting to one another. The cases were not only from abroad. Hence, we must stay alert,” he said.

As of Wednesday (January 26, 2022), the BOR at COVID-19 hospitals in Jakarta touched 45 percent, while the ICU occupancy reached 14 percent.

Jakarta’s health service claimed that the situation was deemed to be under control, referring to the BOR both in isolation rooms and ICU.

“Hence, the current BOR of 45 percent in isolation rooms and 14 percent in ICU is relatively still sufficient and can be controlled in the health facilities with cases requiring hospitalization,” the service’s disease prevention and control head, Dwi Oktavia, told reporters on Thursday (January 27, 2022).

The BOR was still categorized as being secured to the cap of 60-70 percent, Oktavia noted, adding that special measures are necessitated once the level crosses the cap.

“However, we continue to observe the rate. If the bed count has to be increased, we will add more by adjusting the hospital capacity. We, thereafter, will manage the hospital if its beds are fully occupied with COVID-19 patients, so the treatment remains separate from other general patients. We will see all aspects,” she remarked.
