The use of electric vehicles at the G20 aims to showcase Indonesia's serious efforts to other countries. I hope this would be able to encourage the use of alternative energy in futureJakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation observer Djoko Setijowarno affirmed that the use of electric vehicles at the G20 Summit in Bali is expected to encourage the broader use of alternative energy-based vehicles in Indonesia.
"The use of electric vehicles at the G20 aims to showcase Indonesia's serious efforts to other countries. I hope this would be able to encourage the use of alternative energy in future," Setijowarno noted when contacted by Antara here on Tuesday.
The observer drew attention to several ways to increase the use of environmentally friendly vehicles in Indonesia by also pursuing the use of gas-fueled or solar-powered vehicles apart from using electric-based vehicles.
Setijowarno stated that the use of electric vehicles should be followed by efforts to generate electricity from new and renewable energy (EBT), so that the impact of climate change can be minimized.

"If we want clean air, we can use solar power. If we use an electric-based vehicle with a power source that comes from coal, then it means we continue to use dirty energy," he affirmed.
The head of the MTI Center for Advocacy and Community Affairs lauded the government's steps to encourage the widespread use of environment-friendly vehicles.
However, he pressed for the implementation of policies from upstream to downstream regarding the use of electric vehicles, including those related to the relatively expensive vehicle prices and also the availability of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU), which were considered inadequate.
"The most important aspect is to shift the use of private vehicles to public transportation. Moreover, there needs to be a policy that allows the public to choose the type of vehicle that is environmentally friendly, be it electricity-based or otherwise," he remarked.

Indonesia was selected as the venue for the G20 group of countries' meeting in 2022.
The world-class forum will be held in Bali, with one of the themes raised being realizing clean energy or new and renewable energy (EBT).
The clean energy issue was chosen by Indonesia, as the earth is currently under threat from climate change and global warming.
