This unstable situation is unwanted by most political elements in Indonesia. So, in general, it would seem that Indonesia's political climate will stabilize.Jakarta (ANTARA) - A senior researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency's (BRIN) Political Research Center has forecast that the political climate in Indonesia will stabilize in 2022.
"This political stability is necessary for political parties so that they can conduct their activities in comfort since the (poll) registration will be carried out in August," Firman Noor noted at an event streamed on YouTube on Wednesday.
For their interests, political parties seek to maintain political stability to secure their respective maneuverings as the 2024 General Election draws near, he said.
"This unstable situation is unwanted by most political elements in Indonesia. So, in general, it would seem that Indonesia's political climate will stabilize," he elaborated.

However, at the grassroots level, Indonesia's political climate is punctuated by verbal spats between the pro-government party and those criticizing the government's policies, he noted.
"Unfortunately, the developing issue among them is the problem of hate speech, tolerance, and others," Noor said.
In general, in 2022, Indonesia will have a solid government, he projected. However, democracy will tend to stagnate, he opined.
"Democracy still holds majority support. Several research show that. However, the relation between the executive and legislative branch is not equal. Only 104 out of the 575 house members promote themselves as opposition," he pointed out.

This inequality has resulted in an executive heavy government where power is dominated by the executive branch, he said.
To this end, Noor said he hopes that, in the future, the checks and balances function would work better as it should.
During the event, acting head of BRIN's Political Research Center, Athiqah Nur Alami, said that improving people's political literacy is crucial for welcoming the 2024 General Elections.
This could be done through dissemination on mass media and social media, she noted.
