"I think it is crucial to enhance the public's political literacy digitally, such as through the mass media and social media," Alami noted during a public discussion "Indonesia Political Outlook: 2022 Democracy and Political Dynamics Projection" here on Wednesday.
Although the General Elections Commission (KPU) has announced that voting for the elections will take place on February 14, 2024, Alami reminded that the phases of the election will begin in August 2022.
"The phases are registration, determination, and approval of political parties, constituencies, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the candidates' campaigns," Alami pointed out.

Looking at the several stages of the election that will begin in 2022, she viewed that 2022 will be replete with contestation, competitions, and maneuvering from political parties and elites to boost the image of each party and garner public support.
This contestation is likely to be overshadowed by several political issues, such as corruption and money politics, that could harm the democratic life in Indonesia, she expounded.
To this end, she emphasized the importance of improving political literacy among members of the public as a precautionary measure against those issues that may develop on social media.
"This aligns with the characteristics of democratic values that are dynamic and changing. We need to convey these democratic values from generation to generation," Alami added.
She expressed optimism that political education for the community would be able to create a healthy democratic life and realize an intelligent and mature Indonesian society in politics.
