Deputy director of the Center for Political Studies at University of Indonesia (Puskapol UI), Hurriyah made the remarks, in the webinar "Questioning the Selection of Elections Implementation: Prospects and Challenges of Fit and Proper Test in the House of Representatives", here on Sunday.
"The public's involvement in the selection process is also useful to bolster electoral agencies. In the context of fit and proper test, the public 's engagement will help advise members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI)," Hurriyah explained.
According to her, the public's involvement can assist the selection committee and the DPR in producing KPU and Bawaslu members who have a high level of managerial and electoral skills, as well as integrity in serving as the election organizers.

The three criteria are important for the new KPU and Bawaslu members, considering the possible increase in complexity in the 2024 general elections and regional heads elections, she elaborated.
"This complexity is not only a technical matter such as the voting preparation but related to the likelihood of collisions in the 2024 elections. People in the election organizing agencies need to have strong electoral skills and managerial abilities," she added.
Therefore, she viewed that the public;s involvement in selecting the new KPU and Bawaslu members, from beginning to the final stage, becomes a key to solidifying the publicity of the recruiting process, she pointed out.
Hurriyah added, public involvement is one of the political problems that exist in Indonesia.
The process of deciding something crucial that concerns the interests of many people should be transparent, she explained.
"So the public can see, observe, and supervise the process," she concluded.
