Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) commander, Admiral Yudo Margono, outlined five aspects regarding the neutrality of soldiers before and during the 2024 General Elections during a meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR).

"First, we will not side with and give support to any political parties and their candidates, while avoiding involvement in practical politics," Margono informed at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Second, TNI is committed to not providing its infrastructure and facilities to any political parties and their candidates for campaign purposes, he emphasized.

Third, the family members of TNI soldiers who wield the right to vote as Indonesian citizens must not direct the public to vote for their preferred candidates, he said.

"The fourth point concerns the prohibition of giving response or comments, including on social media, on the results of quick count released by survey institutions," he added.

The final aspect pertains to the resolve of the TNI to take firm action against soldiers and civil servants who are found to be involved in practical politics or supporting political parties and their candidates, he continued.

"I have also distributed pocketbooks to soldiers to guide them to fully comprehend the technical implementation of the neutrality of the TNI," he informed.

Speaking to legislators, Margono further said he had instructed all TNI personnel to maintain their neutrality, including by issuing an internal regulation and constantly spreading word about the importance of soldiers remaining neutral.

Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Muhammad Ali; Army Chief of Staff, General Agus Subiyanto; and Air Force Chief of Staff, Marshall Fadjar Prasetyo, also joined the working meeting.

The meeting was held to discuss the readiness of TNI for ensuring the security of the general elections, security contingency plans for the elections, and budget support.
