"The participants were representatives of each indigenous village, young generation group, students, and indigenous villages heads in Badung District," head of the Badung Culture Affairs Office, Gde Eka Sudarwitha, said in Mangupura, Bali on Thursday.
The event featured competitions on writing, reading, and telling stories in Balinese, as well as speech and debate competitions between indigenous villages heads, he informed.
The activities were targeted at preserving the Balinese language, script, and literature, especially among the younger generation, he said.
"This event also aimed to spread the use of Balinese script and literature in people's daily lives. In addition, the use of the Balinese language is also proof that the Balinese people can demonstrate Balinese credibility," he explained.
The Balinese Script and Literature Month is themed "Danu Kertih Gitaning Toyo Ning" this year, which emphasizes nurturing water sources in Bali as one of the sources of life, Sudarwitha highlighted.

Meanwhile, Badung regional secretary, I Wayan Adi Arnawa, said that the implementation of the Bali Script and Literature Month reflected the local government's commitment to preserving Bali's local wisdom.
The activity was also part of the Badung district government's programs, which are "pro culture" or aligned to the preservation of local culture, he added.
"Hopefully, more people can be more aware of the existence of our local wisdom as a power in life," Arnawa remarked.
