All people must stay disciplined, maintain strict health protocols, and reduce unnecessary mobility.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Thursday asked ministers to evaluate the level of community activity restrictions (PPKM) across Indonesia in the wake of the surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the country.

"I have told the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs as the PPKM coordinator for Java-Bali regions and the Coordinating Minister for Economy as the PPKM coordinator for regions outside Java-Bali to immediately evaluate the PPKM level," he said in Medan city, North Sumatra province, on Thursday.

The statement was made following reports of Indonesia adding 27,197 cases on Thursday, bringing the total tally since the start of the pandemic to 4,414,483 cases.

According to the Instruction of Home Affairs Minister (Inmendagri) Number 6/2022 on Enforcement of PPKM in Java-Bali Regions and Inmendagri Number 7/2022 regarding Enforcement of PPKM in Regions Outside Java-Bali, the regions will be assessed for PPKM Level 1–3, Widodo said.

"I urge all local government officials, along with the military and police, to ensure that the community has implemented the health protocols well and to expedite the vaccination program," the President emphasized.

Furthermore, he appealed to the public to remain calm.

“All people must stay disciplined, maintain strict health protocols, and reduce unnecessary mobility. People who have not been vaccinated should get vaccinated immediately,” he said.

He also urged people who have been fully vaccinated to get booster shots according to the schedule.

He said he is optimistic that the government's readiness in handling the Omicron variant has been better compared to the handling of the Delta variant since hospitals, medicines, oxygen supplies, isolation rooms, and health workers have been prepared.

According to the COVID-19 Task Force, as of February 3, 2022, the country has recorded 115,275 active COVID-19 cases.

Furthermore, the number of recovered patients has increased by 5,993, while deaths have climbed by 38.

In addition, the government has administered 185,622,566 first dose vaccinations, 29,405,527 second dose vaccinations, and 4,799,946 third dose vaccinations.
