During the drafting process of the regulations derived from the IKN Law, the House of Representatives reminded (the government) to ensure as broad public participation as possibleJakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Puan Maharani has urged the Indonesian government to ensure public participation in drafting regulations derived from the State Capital (IKN) Law.
According to Maharani, public participation is essential since the government is currently drafting around 10 regulations related to the state capital.
"During the drafting process of the regulations derived from the IKN Law, the House of Representatives reminded (the government) to ensure as broad public participation as possible," Maharani noted in her statement here on Thursday.

The House speaker assessed that public participation in the process of relocating the capital city is vital, as Indonesian citizens have the right to partake in the state policy drafting process.
According to the DPR speaker, after the public participated in the law-drafting process in the DPR, the people's participation should be continued in the drafting of the IKN Law-derived regulations that then becomes the government's discretion.
"To this end, we hope that the government would invite various elements of society to actively participate in discussions on the regulations for the development of the new state capital, akin to what the DPR has done while drafting the IKN Law," she remarked.
There are 10 derivative regulations of the IKN Law: three government regulations (PP), five presidential regulations (Perpres), one presidential decree (Keppres), and one IKN authority head regulation.

Maharani expressed optimism that the drafting of the derivative regulations would be on target since based on the mandate in the law, the derivative regulations must have been completed no later than two months since the IKN Law was passed on January 18, 2022.
The House speaker also expressed optimism that development of the new capital in East Kalimantan would run as planned.
"The DPR is ready to follow the timeline to move the office from Jakarta to East Kalimantan," she affirmed.
She explained that the entire process of moving the capital city to East Kalimantan would take 20 years and would be conducted gradually. Hence, she is optimistic of the process running smoothly and being conducted carefully.
