Plate highlighted the need for industrial collaboration as a solution to create a healthy press ecosystem, especially in the digital transformation era.
Plate drew emphasis on this step to be taken not only by the business sector but also based on observations of the people's behavior and content distribution methods.
"The digital era can be used as a means to develop the capabilities of press personnel and institutions in the sector. In this increasingly collaborative era, cooperation between the press industry and other stakeholders, including the government, in creating agile and adaptive media governance is absolutely necessary," Plate said in a statement here on Wednesday.
The minister explained that collaboration between press industries is significant to diversify media products, improve the quality of journalism products, and expand other important elements in the press and media industry.
Thus, the press can remain a trusted source of information despite the circulation of hoaxes on social media.
"This is in terms of human resources, production equipment, management, as well as corporate internal governance. Some of these aspects must continue to be pursued, so that the press and media industry can always improve their quality and professionalism," he affirmed.
In the meantime, the minister remarked that the government was also currently striving to provide strong support to create a healthy press ecosystem by accommodating the establishment of policy rules for legal protection.
He explained that this step was crucial, given that the climate and ecosystem of the press in Indonesia in the next few years could change drastically, as they had to adapt to developments in the era of digital transformation.
"If the climate and level playing field can be regulated, then the use of digital technology, such as big data, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, extended reality, and also metaverse, will encourage development of the press industry," he affirmed.
Apart from efforts taken by the government, Plate also emphasized the need for joint efforts with all those involved in the press industry to jointly present quality journalism regulations.
Thus, a good and healthy press ecosystem can be realized even in the midst of uncertainty, including during the current infodemic.
"Along with a healthy press climate, the press industry's real efforts to keep making improvements are expected to continue to maintain the quality and independence of the press in a responsible manner," he added.
