We must once again make sure that our children, our younger brothers can use the Internet positively and productively. That is what Indonesia is struggling for at the G20 forum.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government, through the Digital Economic Working Group (DEWG), will push for the positive and productive use of the Internet during the country's G20 presidency.

The struggle is part of efforts to anticipate the negative impact of digital disruptions on vulnerable groups, particularly children, spokesperson for the Communication and Informatics Ministry, Dedy Permadi, said during a webinar on sofa-talk, digital connectivity, and post COVID-19 pandemic recovery, according to a press statement released on Friday.

According to Permadi, the struggle for the positive use of the Internet is one of the most important jobs in the digital era when Internet connectivity has reached all sectors and human beings.

"We must once again make sure that our children, our younger brothers can use the Internet positively and productively. That is what Indonesia is struggling for at the G20 forum," he said.

He then referred to the last chapter of a book titled The Industries of The Future by Alec Ross, who has talked at length about how the Internet has developed all over the world.

"In the last chapter (of the book) there is a funny question of what is the most important job. The answer is quite astonishing. That is, being a father. In the midst of extraordinary technological development, we must make sure that our children, our younger brothers can use the Internet positively and productively," he remarked.

Meanwhile, chief of the international relations department at Padjadjaran University, Arfin Sudirman, said the Internet is a solution for safe mobility and physical interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The positive use of the Internet will have an impact on the national economy and prevent the country from falling into crises, like at the onset of the pandemic two years ago, he added.

"The pandemic compels us to use digital instruments so the economy will revive," he said.
