Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry is preparing telecommunications infrastructure and radiofrequency spectrum ahead of the 2022 MotoGP Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at the Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"We have conducted a trial of communication technology and frequency spectrum application to support the racing event," Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate informed at a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

The ministry has classified the communication infrastructure around the circuit area into three categories—backbone network, middle mile network (backhaul), and access network, he informed.

Currently, the backbone network of the area is connected to a fiber-optic network with a capacity of 560 gigabytes (GB) through one main corridor and three alternative corridors, the minister said.

The main corridor is attached to the submarine communications cable (SKKL) of Jember-Denpasar Cable System (JDCS) and the Mataram-Rungkut fiber optic communication system (SKSO) with a capacity of 200 GB, he added.

Meanwhile, the alternative routes comprise Mataram-Bima SKKL and SKSO (with 130 GB capacity), Mataram-Kupang SKKL and Makassar-Kendari-Maumere SKKL (30 GB), as well as Bali-Lombok SKKL and Mataram-Mandalika-Bali cable system (200 GB), Plate informed.

Furthermore, the middle mile network in the area is connected to the backbone network through a 109.1-kilometer (km) fiber-optic network, which travels through nine villages in Pujut sub-district, he noted.

Meanwhile, the access networks prepared for the racing event include fixed broadband and mobile broadband, he said.

The fiber optic-based fixed broadband will be used to provide WiFi with speeds of around 20 megabytes per second (Mbps) to 100 Mbps.

Meanwhile, according to the ministry’s assessment, the mobile broadband in the region reaches speeds of 10 Mbps to 50 Mbps and is provided by three Indonesian cellular operators, Telkomsel, XL, and Indosat.

The infrastructure readiness around the Mandalika Circuit area was assessed at the same time as the implementation of the pre-season test on February 11–13, 2022, Plate said.

The ministry will conduct frequency clearance to detect any potential frequency band interference two days before the MotoGP event, which will take place on March 18–20, 2022.
