Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - To anticipate an increase in COVID-19 cases amid Omicron spread, the government of Bandung city, West Java province, has prepared an integrated isolation center that can accommodate 100 COVID-19 patients.



The integrated isolation center is located on Kawaluyaan street, Bandung city, and will start operations from Thursday (February 17, 2022), acting Mayor of Bandung city, Yana Mulyana, informed here on Tuesday.



"Later, COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms (who are referred) from hospitals or community health centers (Puskesmas) can undergo isolation here," he said.



To be admitted at the isolation center, COVID-19 patients will need to be referred by a Puskesmas or hospital, he added.

Once it is confirmed that they are experiencing mild symptoms and are told to self-isolate, patients can come to the integrated isolation center, the acting mayor explained.



Even though the government has prepared the isolation center, Mulyana expressed the hope that the number of COVID-19 cases in Bandung city would decline.



"I remind you all to always comply with the health protocols. At least wear a mask. Inshallah (if God wills) if we do it, we will be safe (from COVID-19 transmission)," he remarked.

So far, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Bandung city has reached 5,333. In the last week, the number of new COVID-19 cases in the city continued to increase every day.



The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of February 15, 2022, Indonesia has recorded a total of 4,901,328 COVID-19 cases, 4,349,848 recoveries, and 145,455 deaths.



The Ministry of Health detected the first Omicron case in Indonesia on December 15, 2021. With the spread of the new variant, Indonesia has recorded a significant increase in COVID-19 cases.
