“Indonesia's G20 presidency is currently in a very crucial period for the global economic recovery process. This momentum needs to be utilized to achieve national goals, especially our priority in economic transformation towards realizing (the vision of) an Advanced Indonesia," Minister Hartarto noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.
With the spirit to “Recover Together,” Hartarto affirmed that Indonesia's G20 Presidency has a role to play in driving post-pandemic economic recovery that is stronger, more resilient, and better prepared to face future crises and challenges.
Through the three main agendas of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia will direct cooperation to deliver concrete results, with the first being restructuring the global health architecture, including through the alignment of global health protocol standards and the establishment of a Joint Finance and Health Task Force.
The second agenda pertains to digital-based economic transformation through efforts including the development of more inclusive and productive digital literacy and skills. The third agenda is to reach a global agreement to accelerate a fair and affordable energy transition.
"Indonesia, through its leadership in the G20 Presidency, seeks to produce concrete actions that can be emulated in various places and are beneficial for the world, such as building a world ecosystem that is disability-friendly, sided with innovation, and making policies that can be applied," he affirmed.
The Indonesian G20 Presidency also offers a momentum that should be utilized together to encourage economic recovery in the regions that are the pillars of the national economy.
The series of activities under Indonesia's G20 Presidency, reaching over 400 events in several cities, will encourage the revival of the regional economy.
It is estimated that the economic benefits for Indonesia will increase the National GDP by Rp7.4 trillion, involve MSMEs, and absorb up to 33 thousand workers.
Indonesia's G20 presidency will continue to be open and support cooperation with various parties, both among domestic stakeholders, as well as cooperation with G20 countries and international organizations to implement adaptive, responsive, and inclusive economic transformation efforts.
Lead co-chair of Think 20 (T20) Indonesia, Djisman Simandjuntak, earlier stated that restoring supply chains is crucial for recovering the economy of several countries, including Indonesia, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The inflation experienced by several countries currently is the result of supply chain disruption,” he pointed out.
However, restoring the supply chain would be quite difficult in the midst of restrictions on community activities that have been imposed to curb the transmission of COVID-19, he noted.

Furthermore, high inflation in several regions -- such as the United States, China, and Europe -- should evoke concern, although various economic indicators in the countries are starting to improve, he added.
"Thus, we are facing complicated choices on how to mobilize the stimulus package to encourage economic recovery," he remarked.
