Breakthroughs to provide solutions to the difficulties that women victims experience are necessary in order to fight for truth, justice, and recoveryJakarta (ANTARA) - Several factors are hindering the handling of gender-based violence against women by various agencies, Deputy Chair of the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) Olivia C. Salampessy has said.
During the 2022 Komnas Perempuan Annual Record unveiling event on Monday, she informed that these factors involve limitations concerning human resources, access to information and communication technology, facilities, and budget.
"There is a concern that this will stagnate the case response capacity," she said.
The commission, which is also experiencing the same limitations, is asked to quickly respond to every case, she noted.
"We can only handle 16 cases per day," Salampessy explained.
Other hurdles in resolving cases pertaining to violence against women include revocation of reports by victims, lack of evidence, and law enforcement authorities' limited perspective, she said.
Moreover, sexual violence perpetrators are often close to the victims, she observed. In addition, the perpetrators can also be figures that should have protected the victims and served as an example, she said.
Examples of such figures include teachers, lecturers, religious figures, law enforcement officials, state civil apparatus (ASN), medical workers, or public officials, she said.
"Dissemination on child marriage as a violation of children's rights, especially girls, should continue to be spread," Salampessy stressed.

Amid increasing gender-based violence against women, which is becoming more complex and rampant, there should be a commitment and involvement of various parties for handling such cases, she said.
This is especially important in order to not give the impression that there has been no progress, she said.
Cases of gender-based sexual violence against women have risen by 50 percent from 226,062 cases in 2020 to 338,496 cases in 2021, she noted.
