Banggai, Central Sulwesi (ANTARA) - Some 28 houses in Dondo Village, South Balantak Sub-district, Banggai District, Central Sulawesi Province, were damaged following floods on Wednesday.

Of the total 28 houses, eight houses incurred heavy damage, three suffered moderate damage, while minor damages were reported in 17 houses, South Balantak Sub-district Head Robby Nuraga stated here on Wednesday.

The flooding was triggered by incessant heavy rains lashing since 11 p.m. local time on Tuesday until 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The rains also caused the Dondo River to overflow its bank.

No casualties were reported in the disaster, and the flood victims began returning to their respective homes and the floodwaters receded, he remarked.

"Eight houses are badly damaged, and some people are cleaning, while some others are repairing their houses," he noted.

The Banggai Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the village government have extended a helping hand to the flood-affected residents.

"We are also not sure whether the flooding is categorized as a flash flood. The urgent need now is basic food as relief aid for the victims," he affirmed.

The village government reminded the community to remain alert for further flooding while the authorities established coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to provide weather forecast in the area.

"We continue to monitor the condition and coordinate with related parties to help deal with this flood problem," he stated.

The local government will help flood victims whose houses were heavily damaged.
