We need to work on the prices of on-farm live birds and broiler eggs that are often below the reference price
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government continues to encourage the modernization of cultivation and supply chains to develop the national poultry industry.

"We have made various efforts to develop the national poultry industry by increasing productivity and competitiveness of the poultry industry through the modernization of cultivation and supply chains," Deputy for Food and Agribusiness Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Musdhalifah Machmud noted during the webinar "Shrimp and Poultry Business Activities in the Year of Water Tiger" on Thursday.

Machmud later noted that the government had also encouraged the development of egg processing industries, such as egg flour, liquid egg, and frozen egg, as raw materials for further processing industries.

"We continue to communicate with the Ministry of Industry and investors. We expect to develop the egg industry since we have surplus stock of egg production," she remarked.

The Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Affairs estimates that the production of broiler eggs in 2022 will reach 5.92 million tons, exceeding the demand for 5.31 million tons, thereby clocking a surplus of 615 thousand tons.

Another endeavor by the ministry to encourage the development of the poultry industry is by implementing the regulation on commercial chicken meat and eggs for the benefit of farmers, market players, and the consumer, Machmud noted.

"We are also stabilizing the price of chicken meat and eggs for farmers and consumers," she remarked.

Machmud conveyed that the government had also stabilized the price of animal feed and the price of raw materials for poultry feed.

In addition, the government continues to increase the consumption of broiler meat and eggs at the community level and form a National Poultry Arrangement Study Team and formulate the National Poultry Roadmap.

All these efforts are in response to the challenges faced by the national poultry industry in the form of the high price of poultry feed, raw material for poultry feed, quality of day-old chicks (DOCs), and the absence of integrated verification and validation of the national poultry data.

"We need to work on the prices of on-farm live birds and broiler eggs that are often below the reference price. The level of consumption of animal protein per capita is also still low. We are striving to increase poultry consumption by encouraging Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) by including chicken and eggs to become more accessible to the people," she concluded.
