Jakarta (ANTARA) - Various natural disasters that affected several parts of Indonesia from January 1 to March 10, 2022, claimed 65 lives, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

Over the period of time, the country bore witness to 850 natural disasters, most of which were related to extreme weather, such as floods and landslides, the BNPB noted on its Twitter account on Friday night.

The disasters also injured 572 people and forced 1,288,776 people to take refuge, while two people went missing, the agency stated.

According to the BNPB, the disasters comprised four earthquakes with a magnitude of above 5.0, 30 incidents of forest and land fires, 329 incidents of floods, 164 landslides, 316 extreme weather events, and seven incidents of tidal waves and abrasion.

West Java experienced the highest number of disasters at 213, followed by 159 in Central Java and 130 in East Java.

The disasters caused damage to 16,786 house buildings, with 2,630 of them severely damaged, 60 office buildings, 50 bridges, and 525 public facilities, including 331 educational facilities.
