Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR RI) Speaker Puan Maharani on Monday presided over the coordination meeting for the 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and Related Meetings in Bali to ensure preparedness for hosting the event.

"At the last coordination meeting, the Bali Governor and regional leaders affirmed their readiness to prepare all aspects necessary for the upcoming 144th IPU meetings on March 20–24,” Maharani said in Badung, Bali, on Monday.

As the host country, Indonesia will preside over the meetings as the President of the Assembly, and President Joko Widodo will open the event, she informed.

She also said that delegates for the IPU Assembly will participate in various activities during the event.

"To date, we have 115 national delegates who will be present at the 144th IPU Assembly, and more delegates have registered to attend the event," Maharani added.

She pointed out that as the 144th IPU Assembly and Related Meetings will be the first large-scale international summit to be hosted in Bali this year, it will be a good opportunity to demonstrate Bali province's readiness to recover and host international events.

Meanwhile, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster reiterated the province's readiness for hosting international events, saying the COVID-19 pandemic in the province has improved due to proper pandemic handling and a high vaccination rate.

"The COVID-19 pandemic in Bali has been under control with cases that are steadily declining. The situation is improving as we have a high vaccination rate, and the current booster vaccination rate has reached 33.6 percent," he informed.

The provincial authority is ready to support the international event, the governor said while confirming that the authority has set up a team to monitor and enforce the health protocols during the event.

"The meeting will be our momentum to host international events and enhance the recovery of Bali tourism and economy," Koster remarked.
