Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is providing support for the clinical trials of three health innovation candidates: a spine implant prototype, CPAP-BiPAP ventilator, and phytopharmaca medicine for cognitive enhancement.

"There is absolutely no money flowing to the researchers within the facilitation that we provide," BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko said during a webinar on Tuesday.

"These researchers only deliver candidates from health products that have been scientifically proven to be tested by different teams along with the industry because the testing process should involve the industry," he explained.

These product candidates have passed the selection process during which 30 proposals were submitted to BRIN for funding facilitation within the Health Innovation Product Testing (PPIK) scheme.

One of the recipients of the first batch of PPIK facilitation this year is I Nyoman Jujur from Advance Material Research Center, Nanotechnology and Material Research Organization, who is collaborating with PT Zenith Allmar.

Jujur and his team are working on a spine implant prototype, one of the products in the National Research Priority (PRN) activity.

Next is Erry Dwi Kurniawan from the Telecommunication Research Center, Electronics and Informatics Research Organization, who is collaborating with PT Tesena Inovindo.

Kurniawan and his team are working on a CPAP-BiPAP ventilator.

Last, there is Zullies Ikawati from Gadjah Mada University, who is collaborating with PT Konimex. She and her team are working on a phytopharmaca medicine candidate for cognitive enhancement, made from sappan wood extract.

The PPIK funding facilitation is part of BRIN's commitment to testing health innovation products in clinical trials that require a large budget.

In addition, clinical trials are also complicated and involve various parties such as regulators, industry players, researchers, hospitals, and testing laboratories, Handoko added.

Hence, BRIN exists to facilitate and bridge this clinical trial process.

With this, the parties, including researchers and the industry, can optimally utilize the PPIK scheme to streamline the testing process for health innovation products that are currently being developed, he remarked.
