Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry will build a retention basin in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan Province, to support the development of the Mentawir Plant Nursery in the new capital, Nusantara.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that his ministry will build raw water infrastructure to meet the needs for operating the large-scale tree seedlings nursery.

Mentawir Plant Nursery is located in Mentawir village, Sepaku sub-district, North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan Province.

The nursery will cover about 9 hectares of land and have a seedling production capacity of 15 million/year.

"The development of the retention basin for Mentawir Plan Nursery is similar to the implementation of our previous project at Rumpin Plant Nursery in Rumpin Sub-district, Bogor District, West Java Province," the minister said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Kalimantan IV Center for River Basin (BWS) Harya Muldianto informed that the water in the retention basin will be channeled from Mandahan River, which is located near the nursery.

"The reservoir will have a flow rate of 225 liters/second," he informed.

The facility is planned to cover an area of 40 thousand square meters (m2) and have a depth of four meters (m), he said. Thus, the total volume of the retention basin will be 160 thousand cubic meters (m3) with an intake capacity of 40 liters/second, he added.

In addition, Muldianto said that a number of additional infrastructures will be prepared to support the operation of the reservoir, including a water collection pond with a capacity of 2,500 cubic meters.

Six pumps with a capacity of 20 liters/second will also be provided. Three of the pumps will stream water from the retention basin to the pond, while three other pumps will channel the water from the pond to the ultra-filtration facility of the nursery.

Furthermore, there will be five water tanks with a capacity of 640 cubic meters, a sediment pool with a capacity of 1,500 cubic meters, as well as other supporting infrastructure.
