Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director General of Post and Informatics Resource and Hardware at the Communication and Informatics Ministry Ismail has stated, there are a number of factors that can encourage the transition from 3G to 4G.

During a hybrid discussion here on Wednesday, he said that the first factor concerns cost efficiency.

When cellular operators offer parallel services for various networks and technologies, many resources and ecosystems are required.

The second factor concerns the limit on the frequency spectrum that can be utilized by various types of technology.

The ministry has set cellular technology closer to neutral technology wherein operators are being given the freedom to choose the technology they need to utilize in an effective and efficient manner to serve the people, Ismail explained.

He also shared material concerning the 3G transition from multiple points of view.

From the perspective of people, the users, the main priority is receiving services everywhere.

There is also the question of network quality, specifically speed and latency.

"Users certainly want to obtain adequate speed with low delay time while also receiving services at affordable tariff," he elaborated.

Next, in terms of hardware, Ismail noted the importance of detailed analysis concerning the handsets that people own before the government and cellular operators decide to fully phase out 3G.

The third perspective concerns information and communication technology as well as network consideration so that technology utilization is appropriately balanced in terms of cost and allotment.

The issue of 3G to 4G network transition was earlier raised by Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate.

He said that the 4G network has become the backbone for connectivity in Indonesia. Hence, he asked cellular operators to phase out the 3G network gradually.

In addition, the minister also informed that his ministry is conducting a comprehensive study on the mechanism for the 3G phaseout.
