"Biodiversity management and utilization cannot be done alone by individual countries," BRIN's Earth Science Research Organization Acting Head, Ocky Karna Radjasa, told ANTARA here on Thursday.
Cooperation and collaboration between G20 member countries is important as a gap in capacity still exists between G20 nations and to optimize biodiversity management and utilization, he remarked.
To this end, Indonesia proposes collaboration, including in biodiversity management, in supporting the green and blue economy through collective use of facility, infrastructure, and research funding.
G20 delegations are fully aware that biodiversity, both in land and sea, is a valuable asset, Radjasa noted. Green and blue economy is a solution to sustainable biodiversity utilization in supporting sustainable development.
The BRIN has suggested facility and infrastructure sharing program and collective research funding.
It also supports a mobility program, including offering research ship Armada managed by BRIN that comprises five Baruna Jaya Research Ships and two Bawal Putih Ships from the Marine Affairs and Fishery Ministry.
In addition, the Geomarin ship from the Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry is currently in the integration process.
The BRIN also offers the Culture Collection (InaCC) facility and National Biodiversity Center in Cibinong, West Java.
Earlier, it was reported that the BRIN is preparing development planning for 25 research stations for the sustainable management of biodiversity and bioprospecting spread out across Indonesia.
Here, on March 1, 2022, BRIN's Biology Research Center Head, Anang S. Achmadi, expects that within a period of five years, these research stations will be managed collaboratively by researchers.
This means they will be filled with students from universities and other related parties, he told ANTARA.
