"The 144th IPU Assembly is being organized amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the fluctuation in global dynamics. The IPU meeting is an opportunity for national parliaments to deliberate on global issues that have become the concern of the global community," Maharani said in a statement here on Friday.
Maharani's statement was earlier delivered during the IPU Assembly's Executive Committee (Excom) meeting at the Bali International Convention Centre in Nusa Dua on Friday.

Besides deliberating current global issues, the IPU meeting will also encourage national parliaments to conceive solutions to address challenges, she said.
The House of Representatives considers the meeting as a momentum to enhance international cooperation among national parliaments, the speaker added.
"The COVID-19 pandemic is in its third year, while geopolitical friction and climate change have intensified in these years. Hence, the IPU must conceive their contribution to addressing those issues," Maharani remarked.
The IPU Assembly's main theme will be 'Getting to Zero: Mobilizing Parliaments to Act on Climate Change' to motivate parliaments to address global warming as an existential challenge for humankind whose survivability must be assured in the future, she informed.

"We hope the meeting will be the medium for constructive deliberation to conceive the Nusa Dua Declaration that would become the main output of the 144th IPU Assembly and mobilize national parliaments' to mitigate climate change effects," the DPR Speaker said.
The 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly will take place from March 20 to 24, 2022, and parliamentary delegates from 132 countries, including 33 parliamentary speakers and 35 deputy speakers, are expected to attend the meeting.
Before the 144th IPU Assembly, the IPU Excom meeting was organized to deliberate meeting agendas and issues, as well as the implementation of IPU Assembly resolutions.
