The ministry's Director General of Regional Administration Development, Safrizal, said that authorities considered strategic on the national level will be exempt from the purview of the national capital authority.
"In principle, all authorities that are necessary for regional governance, either on the central government, provincial, district, and municipal levels, will be handed over to the new capital authority, except powers that are considered strategic on the national level," Safrizal clarified.
The director general made the statement during a public hearing on the draft derivative regulation to implement Law No. 3 of 2022 on National Capital, accessed online from here on Tuesday.
Besides authorities considered strategic on the national level, the new capital administration could revoke any authority if it considers that not executing the authority would be the best option for the new capital administration, he noted.
"(We can revoke an authority) if the capital authority decides not to execute the authority because of lack of sufficient time or strategic relevance for the new capital," Safrizal said.
The central government could also revoke the administration if the granted authority is judged to disrupt the new capital authority's focus of developing the new capital, he added.
The director general expressed the hope that progress planned for the new capital would expedite the realization of the national capital, Nusantara, which will become the Indonesian nation's identity and symbol in the future.
The new capital is also expected to be the pride of the nation and grow as a sustainable capital that will drive the national economy in the future, he remarked.
