"So, this is one of the examples of the community development program of state-owned enterprises (BUMN)," said director general of pollution and environmental damage control (PPKL) at the ministry, Sigit Reliantoro, at the inauguration of a solar power plant (PLTS) in Karang Rejo, Yogyakarta, on Thursday.
The inauguration was attended by the B20 State Delegation.
Reliantoro, who is also co-chair of the G20 Environment Deputies Meeting and Climate Sustainability Working Group (EDMCSWG), said that the development of renewable energy with the involvement of the community can help overcome environmental problems as well as resolve social problems and create livelihoods.
The PLTS installation is a tangible manifestation of Pertamina's efforts, as part of the B20 Task Force for Energy, Sustainability and Climate (ESC), to explore new and renewable energy sources by involving the participation of villagers, he added.
The development of new and renewable energy originating from local energy sources is also a tangible manifestation of the B20 Task Force's efforts that are in line with the government's target to carry out energy transformation.
"This means that in this natural system, we can actually utilize all the energy that comes from the local area, including solar energy. This is an actual example that is deliverable, as directed by the President. We have implemented it here," Reliantoro said.
The use of energy originating from the local area, he informed, is aimed at saving energy use.
"If we use energy from abroad, more energy will be expended. Therefore, we want to use the energy here as an energy sources," Reliantoro explained.
Meanwhile, the installation of PLTS with a capacity of 1.2 kWp is expected to contribute to the reduction of 1.320 tons of CO2 per year. Besides the PLTS in Karang Rejo, 9 other PLTS have been installed at several locations, with a total capacity of up to 50 kWp, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 65 thousand tons of CO2 per year.
