Jakarta (ANTARA) - As many as 120,643 students participating in the 2022 National Selection for State University Entrance (SNMPTN) have passed the selection process and have been admitted to universities of their choice, a government official has said.

"There are three selection methods for admission to state universities, and today we will discuss the 20-percent portion because the selection process is based on each student's academic score. The portion will be 20 percent of the entire admittance for each state university," head of the higher education entrance test administrator (LTMPT), Mochamad Ashari, said at a press conference held to announce the SNMPTN results here on Tuesday.

Of the total 120,643 students admitted to 125 state universities nationwide through SNMPTN selection, around 109,276 students have been admitted to universities of their first choice, while 11,367 students have been admitted to universities of their second choice, he informed. Students were allowed to pick up to two preferred universities or majors during the selection process.

Meanwhile, around 35,570 students receiving Smart Indonesia Cards (KIP) benefits have been admitted to state universities, he added.

The total number of students participating in the selection process this year stood at 612,049, and they had to compete for 122,651 positions available under the SNMPTN selection scheme this year, he revealed.

While all students registered their first choice, only 520,853 students registered their second choice, the administrator head said, adding that a total of 151,514 students participating in the selection process are receiving KIP benefits.

Ashari said that based on the proportion of total participants and total admitted participants, the average acceptance level in the 2022 SNMPTN selection is 19.71 percent.

"The acceptance level in proportion to the entire participants is 19.71 percent. Hence, of 100 participants, we will have only 20 students that are admitted. For participants under the KIP benefits, the percentage is 23.48 percent. This is a tough competition for all participants," the LTMPT head remarked.

He informed that of the 125 state universities, around 20 state universities have admitted the most students in the selection process. The universities comprise Malang-based Brawijaya University (3,445), State University of Semarang (3,083), Bandung-based Indonesia University of Education (3,038), University of Lampung (3,027), and State University of Padang (2,867).

Ashari asked SNMPTN participants who failed to enter their dream university not to be discouraged and to continue making efforts to pass the written examination during the next admission process.

"For those who failed (in the SNMPTN selection), do not be discouraged. Keep up your spirit, there are still plenty of places to realize your dreams," the LTMPT head remarked.
