Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) is overseeing the restoration of damaged mangrove ecosystems and a road to the salt production center in Rawaurip village, Cirebon district, West Java.

First Deputy of the Presidential Staff Office Febry Calvin Tetelepta said that his administration has sought complaints and suggestions from the public and is actively expediting efforts to address issues that hinder national interests.

The government is paying attention to salt farmers' complaints, he assured while in Rawaurip village, Pangenan district, Cirebon, on Thursday, according to a press release issued by Presidential Staff Office.

Efforts to improve the mangrove ecosystem, road infrastructure, and address the silting of the river due to sedimentation were a follow-up to a report submitted by the salt farming community to the Chief of Presidential Staff, Moeldoko, during a visit to Rawaurip village on October 8, 2021.

Tetelepta and the Jakarta-West Java National Road Implementation Center reviewed the condition of the 3.5-kilometer road that was damaged and stagnated the salt farmers' activities.

He said that his administration is actively coordinating with the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry and related institutions for addressing the damage to mangrove ecosystems.

Salt farmers in Rawaurip had complained about the risk of crop failure due to tidal flooding.

The Presidential Staff Office and relevant ministries and agencies are coordinating to restore 25 hectares of mangrove area to prevent seawater abrasion, which could damage salt pond areas.

They are also working with the Center for the Cimanuk-Cisanggarung River Region to address the silting of the Cimanis Bangka Deres River due to sedimentation.

Several heavy equipment have been deployed along the 700-meter-long river, and the dredging process will continue until it reaches 3.5 km, he informed.
