Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministry has helped six small Indonesian coffee businesses to participate in the Specialty Coffee Expo (SCE) 2022 in Boston, the United States, from April 8–10, 2022.

"This is one of the efforts to expand market access for Indonesian coffee products," head of the Law and Cooperation Bureau at the ministry, Henra Saragih, explained here on Saturday.

In 2022, the ministry accommodated six business actors in the coffee, chocolate, and beverage ingredient sectors. The facilitation of the three sectors was aimed at supporting the coffee business sector, Saragih said.

The six SMEs had participated in a series of selections and curations, he added. He said his team also actively attracted potential buyers to conduct business matching with the SMEs.

"I hope that through this exhibition, the six business players can get the maximum potential order so that they can increase the value of Indonesian coffee exports in the international market, especially the United States," he added.

On the first day of the event, the estimated potential order the six SMEs obtained was worth Rp17.2 billion, he informed. A number of countries made reservations with them, including the United States, Canada, Argentina, and Ecuador.

According to Saragih, the exhibition is strategic for the Indonesian coffee market segment, considering that it features 9,200 coffee producers and coffee processing equipment businesses from 30 countries such as Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Ethiopia, Puerto Rico, Turkey, Rwanda, Belgium, and South Korea.

"This is one of the strategic efforts to not only raise the image of Indonesian coffee products in the international market but also open wider market access for quality coffee products from various regions of Indonesia," Saragih explained.

Through proper coaching and mentoring, as well as collaboration with stakeholders, he said his office is optimistic that the Indonesian coffee sector can expand its access to international markets, thus improving the welfare of SMEs.
