Jakarta (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Arifin Tasrif called on high-ranking officials at the ESDM Ministry to maintain a sense of crisis to meet the people’s demands pertaining to energy and mineral commodities.

Tasrif delivered the statement while inaugurating 26 Echelon I and Echelon II high-ranking officials of the ministry in South Tangerang City, Banten Province, on Monday

"I expect high-ranking officials to understand various challenges and responsibilities that must be faced and taken up by them as well as to be able to resolve the challenges," he remarked.

Furthermore, he called on all high-ranking officials of the ministry to oversee the distribution and availability of fuel as well as other energy and mineral commodities and to ensure the fulfilment of the people’s needs since there will be an increase in demand for the products ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

The minister noted that the ministry was currently facing several difficult challenges, such as the increasing demand of fuel in the midst of declining domestic oil production.

In addition, other challenges include to achieve the 23-percent energy mix target by 2025, downstreaming of minerals and coal processing, as well as fulfilment of electricity and geological data needs, he noted.

He assessed that competent human resources are highly required to face the challenges. Hence, the ministry must improve its employee development attempts and strengthen their integrity.

“There is also a reorganization conducted at the ESDM Ministry, which is the dismissal of the ministry’s Research and Development Agency," Tasrif stated.

Thus, considering the dismissal of the agency, he called on his side to immediately restructure the human resources and budgets of the ministry.

"It (the restructuring) must be completed no later than the first semester of 2022," he added.
