Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urged his staff to optimize the Integrated Eid Exodus Transport Post facilities as a place to offer public services during the Eid homecoming period.

"All sectors (are encouraged to properly) make use of this post, so that information can be obtained and disseminated to the public," Minister Sumadi stated at the opening of the 2022 Integrated Eid Exodus Transport Post here on Monday.

Sumadi remarked that the government was expediting efforts to organize a safe and comfortable Eid exodus in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

He pointed out that the Transportation Ministry had worked incessantly with all relevant stakeholders to provide public services, such as the COVID-19 Task Force, Health Ministry, State-Owned Enterprises Ministry, National Defense Force, Police Force, Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, and also the Regional Government.

"(We) put every effort (possible), so that this year's homecoming could be conducted (well). To fellow colleagues, please inform (your acquaintances), who partake in the exodus, to get booster vaccination," he stated.

The minister cited a survey conducted by the Transportation Research and Development Agency that as many as 85.5 million people will travel during the homecoming period.

Of the figure, 47 percent would use land routes, both those aboard private vehicles, such as cars and motorbikes, or buses.

The transportation minister gave directives to his staff to ensure that the homecoming could run smoothly.

"Of course, this must be managed properly, and communication is important. This command post will be important if information from all (stakeholders) are collected at this post, and this post can serve as a place to obtain information from the media (which would then) be disseminated to the public," he concluded.
