Tangerang (ANTARA) - State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, the manager of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, has received a request for operating 720 additional flights during the 2022 Eid exodus.

"We have received a request for 720 special extra flights from airlines during Eid moments," Soekarno Hatta Airport executive general manager Agus Haryadi said here on Tuesday.

If one aircraft consists of 150 seats, then the additional 720 flights would add 130 thousand seats, Haryadi explained.

The extra seats are meant to meet and accommodate the demand for Eid exodus transportation this year, he added. "This is to help meet the demand during the Eid exodus," he continued.

He also appealed to the public to travel home early to avoid overcrowding. "The government has made an appeal for this," he remarked.

Earlier, PT Angkasa Pura II had estimated that the number of passengers would reach 160 thousand until the peak of the Eid exodus flow, and since last weekend, increases in passenger numbers have been recorded.

On Tuesday (April 26, 2022), the number of passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang was predicted to reach 99,147, with a total of 749 flight arrivals and departures.

As of 8 p.m. local time, the 749 flights consisted of 377 departure flights and 372 arrival flights. There were 52,279 passengers who departed and 46,868 passengers who arrived at the airport, senior manager of communication and legal at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, M. Holik Muwardi, said.

Meanwhile, the Jasa Marga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division (JMT) said that about 230,396 vehicles left Jakarta through Soekarno-Hatta Airport as of Monday (April 25), an increase of 8.67 percent compared to the normal volume of 212,022 vehicles.

For a comfortable trip, JMT advised travelers to prepare adequate fuel capacity and ensure they have sufficient e-toll balance.

Another airport—the Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport at Semarang, Central Java—has approved eight extra flights during the Eid exodus period.
