(We will) accept inputs from residents regarding the name of JIS that is currently named only in the English languageJakarta (ANTARA) - The provincial authority will accept proposals for naming the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in Indonesian language following recent criticism over having an English name despite being a major national stadium, the Jakarta deputy governor stated.
"(We will) accept inputs from residents regarding the name of JIS that is currently named only in the English language," Patria noted here on Wednesday.
The deputy governor stated that the provincial authority will consider thoroughly all Indonesian names submitted by the public for the stadium's name.
"We will be attentive to all inputs from the public, and we will decide the name properly," he remarked.

The deputy governor justified that the stadium's name in English would align with Jakarta's position as a global city.
"(This is because Jakarta) is not only our capital but also a global city," Patria remarked.
Meanwhile, Jakarta People's Representative Council (DPRD) Commission D Secretary Syarif affirmed that regional heads should ensure that government regulations, particularly on the language policy, are observed.
"(As the regulation) dictates the obligation (to name public spaces in Indonesian language), the regional leaders must implement the prevailing laws," Syarif remarked.
As the stadium's English name has been popular among members of the public, the regional legislator suggested that the English name be retained while a new Indonesian name is adopted.

Meanwhile, Jakarta DPRD's Commission E Deputy Chair, Anggara Wicitra Sastroamidjojo, encouraged members of the public to submit their proposals on the Indonesian name of the stadium.
"The names can be produced through public participation. They can just cast votes on names that they can pick. Hence, this is also another means of enhancing public interest towards the stadium," Sastroamidjojo noted.
Since its soft launch in last April, JIS has hosted various events, such as the International Youth Championship (IYC), and the mass congregational Eid al-Fitr prayer earlier in May.
