Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) urged the Law and Human Rights Ministry to bar three people from traveling abroad following a case of bribery in Ambon City, Maluku.

Acting spokesperson for KPK, Ali Fikri, stated that they had requested the Directorate General of Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry to prevent some people from going overseas in the wake of the bribery case. At least three people were prohibited from leaving the country, he stated at the commission's building here on Thursday.

The prohibition was deemed necessary in order to ensure that these people could be present when the investigation team summoned them for further information, he explained.

The KPK had confirmed that they investigated the alleged bribery case pertaining to a permit for the construction of a retail business branch in 2020 in Ambon City, Maluku.

Currently, they were gathering evidences and accounts of witnesses in connection with the alleged corruption case in which a permit was granted to build a branch of a retail company in Ambon City in 2020. Bribery and gratification were suspected in this case, he stated.

Thus far, the commission could not reveal the detailed list of people suspected to be involved in the case.

As is the policy of the current leadership of the KPK, the announcement and naming of suspects would be done simultaneously with the arrest or detention of the suspect.

"The announcement of the suspect will be made when there is an attempt to push for an arrest and detention," he remarked.

Fikri said that as part of their efforts to ensure transparency, the KPK will always report about the developments pertaining to progress achieved in the case to the public.
