Vietnam has always been the toughest rival
Hai Phong, Vietnam (ANTARA) - The Indonesian rowing team grabbed four more gold medals on the final day of the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games rowing race held at the Hai Phong Rowing and Canoeing Training Center on Saturday.

The four golds were won by Ferdiansyah-Denri Maulidzar in the men's pair, Ihram in the men's lightweight single sculls, Jefri Ardianto Suwarno-Rio Riski Darmawan in the men's lightweight pair, and Memo-Edwini Ginanjar-Rifqi Harits-Sulpianto in the men's lightweight quadruple sculls.

"Alhamdulillah, (I) can bag gold again for Indonesia today. But even though I won, I never felt satisfied because I not only wanted to win at the SEA Games, but also the Asian Games and the Olympics," Ferdiansyah told ANTARA at Hai Phong Rowing and Canoeing Training Center.

"Vietnam has always been the toughest rival, especially if they are the host, their mentality must be better. But, we are much better prepared than Vietnam," he added.

On the same day, Indonesia’s Melani Putri-Mutiara Rahma Putri won the silver in the women's lightweight double sculls.

Thus, in total, Indonesia has now collected eight gold and five silver medals in the rowing branch at the SEA Games.

After the rowing competition, the canoe/kayak contest will be held from May 17 to May 21, 2022.

Overall, Indonesia has moved up to second place, above Malaysia, after collecting 12 golds, 12 silvers, and 3 bronzes, as of 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to HQ Indonesia for Sea Games Vietnam.

Indonesia is in second place behind Vietnam, which has, overall, collected 28 golds, 18 silvers, and 26 bronzes.
