Buleleng, Bali (ANTARA) - The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Ministry has launched a water preservation program at Lake Tamblingan, Buleleng District, Bali Province, in collaboration with Kauhan Ubud Temple Foundation and Mpu Kuturan Singaraja Hindu State High School (STAHN).

"Preservation of upstream water sources is one of the important attempts in addition to conservation attempt in the coastal area," KKP Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said at the lake on Sunday.

Although many lakes throughout Indonesia is being utilized and exploited for various economic activities, such as the cultivation of fish in the floating fish cages, the condition of Lake Tamblingan is still well-maintained, he noted.

Hence, the minister is delighted with the condition of the lake.

He went on to say that the water preservation program is very important to maintain the ecosystem of Lake Tamblingan since the lake has a crucial role in supporting the activities of the local residents as one of their main water sources, especially for irrigating the rice fields.

The water preservation program aims to raise public awareness of the importance of springs for humans.
