Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian shadow puppet art wayang kulit was showcased to the audiences at the second G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) meeting in Yogyakarta.

Wayang kulit maker Abi, who was among the three wayang kulit makers invited to the event to showcase their puppet production, expressed optimism that the G20 DEWG delegates would be able to enjoy the beauty and culture offered by Yogyakarta.

"Yogyakarta is rich in historical and art values, of which wayang kulit is one part. We hope that delegates can enjoy (Yogyakarta's history and culture)," Abi noted, as quoted in the Ministry of Communications and Informatics' press statement on Tuesday.

Wayang kulit is one of the most renowned traditional arts in Indonesia. An amalgamation of acting, music, narration, and other arts form the rich wayang kulit performance.

The shadow puppet art has also been recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection during the forum sessions and the wayang kulit performance, the organiser has established a strict health protocol regime for the duration of the event.

Apart from undergoing a COVID-19 rapid test before gaining entry into the venue, delegates and members of the press are constantly reminded by officials to maintain health protocols during the event.

Since 2016, the G20 has set the digitalisation issue as an essential catalyst of economic growth.

During Indonesia's G20 Presidency, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics plays a significant role to streamline deliberations on digital-based economic transformation issues in every G20 working group and engagement group.

Moreover, the ministry's Secretary General, Mira Tayyiba, affirmed that Indonesia's G20 Presidency will showcase various initiatives in the digital economy sector to bolster deliberations during the second G20 DEWG forum.

Those initiatives will be presented in the Wall of Indonesia's Digital Transformation, which is an initiative by G20 DEWG's Industry Task Force members that consists of various industry actors, she remarked.
